Arrival by Air
Cambridge Airport has some domestic services and facilities for charter flights. Stansted Airport is approximately 40 minutes by road from Cambridge. There are excellent taxi services and regular bus service takes approx 45 minutes.
Gatwick and Heathrow Airports are about 1.5 - 2 hours by road from the College. Buses from all these airports run regularly into the City Centre.

Arrival by Train
A good train service exists from London (King's Cross or Liverpool Street) and the fastest trains (the Cambridge Cruiser from King's Cross) take only 52 minutes. Cross country rail services link Cambridge with the Midlands and the North. There are no buses from Cambridge Station to the College. Accomodation

Accomodation is provided by the college and the cost is included in the registration fees..

 

The residential areas are conveniently close to all facilities.

Currency

Cash: British money is based on the decimal system. There are one hundred pence to each pound sterling (£).

Notes: £50, £20, £10, £5

Coinage: £2, £1, 50p, 20p, 10p, 5p, 1p

Overseas visitors can get cash from some automatic teller machines if their home bank and UK bank are linked to the same system. You are advised to check with your home bank before leaving for the UK.

Bureau de Change: All Bureau de Change and other money trading establishments are required to display full details about exchange rates, fees and commissions.

Credit Cards: Access, American Express, Mastercard, Diners Club, VISA etc.are all widely accepted in most shops, hotels and restaurants.

Travellers Cheques: Travellers cheques are also widely accepted and can be changed in banks, some hotels and at the Bureau de Changes.

Bank Opening Hours: In Britain banks are generally open form 09:30 to 16:30 Monday - Friday, however some are open longer hours. Some banks are open on Saturday and Sundays for a few hours.

Electricity

The electricity supply voltage in the UK is 230V and equipment rated between 230V to 240V will work. The standard plug in the UK is a three pin model. Converters for other models used in Europe and the Americas are widely available.

Visa Requirements

All overseas nationals who wish to enter the UK must satisfy the immigration officer at the port of arrival that they meet the requirements of the UK Immigration Rules.

Some people must have a valid visa before arrival in the UK. Others who do not have to have a visa may find it helpful to get one anyway to ensure they are eligible to enter the UK.
